Killing Diabetes the Ayurveda Way

With a stress filled life and hectic schedules, it is observed that many individuals these days face a very common health issue called Diabetes. Diabetes one of the most common health disorder is the most dreaded disease as well.
Diabetes called as Madhumeha in the Ayurveda terminology is considered to be kapha type disorder. Ayurveda identifies nearly 20 types of diabetes and has curing procedures for each type. It is a myth that diabetes is a disease that affects due to excessive intake of sugar. Diabetes can occur die to intake of excessive sugar, increase in stress levels, hereditary reasons etc. Whatever may be the reason for diabetes ayurveda prescribes certain measures to be followed in our diet and lifestyle to keep diabetes away or to cure diabetes:
Measures to be followed in lifestyle:
- Never sleep during the daytime. Especially sleeping immediately after having your lunch or dinner must be avoided.
- Ensure that you exercise or walk everyday for at least 45 minutes.
- Ensure that you don’t get injured till your diabetes treatment reaches its climax
- Avoid smoking or intake of alcohol
- Avoid stress and try to keep yourself cool and composed.
Diabetes is considered to get aggravated majorly due to wrong intake of food. Therefore the most effective way of facing diabetes is through managing your diet. Measures to be followed in terms of diet:
- Ensure that you eat one bitter vegetable daily in one of the meals. Also ensure that you eat one fruit daily.
- Try and avoid sugar in form. Direct sugar, rice, potato etc. In other words intake of sugar directly or food items that have high sugar content must be avoided
- Eat lots of green vegetables. Green vegetables are high on the fibre content which is very good for reducing diabetes issues
- Eat lots of salads and raw vegetables
- Garlic, bitter gourd and onion are some of the vegetables that help in bringing the sugar levels to normalcy.
Other than the mentioned dietary and lifestyle discipline there are certain ayurvedic remedies for diabetes:
- Bitter gourd is like the live saver for all diabetic patients. Have at least one tablespoon of bitter gourd juice daily
- Tulsi the health giver is another best option for controlling diabetes. Boil tulsi leaves and have it in the mornings empty stomach
